this pretentious diatribe

Entry One: 01/22/2010

It's interesting how I am calling this "Entry One" and I've been on OpenDiary.com for almost as long as I've had internet access. I'm getting kind of tired of writing on OD though. I can't say I haven't had fun. I mean, I've met some really great people in person and online from OD, but I've just lost the plot I guess.

So, for those of you who don't know me already. I just turned 28 on January 18th and for the most part this new year for me has been okay. Sure, I've had some set backs, but who doesn't have them.

I currently live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but that is changing soon. I don't really have a reason to stay here anymore. So I'm going to be moving back to where I lived my formative years (12-18), Guernsey County, Ohio. I'm not excited to go back, but it will be nice to see some old friends. I won't be living there for long. I fully intend on being able to make enough money to get out west. California is on my mind the most lately. I like the idea of 70 degree days all year round. You know?

I also realized that I'm running out of youth. I need to start living it as much as I can and living in one place the rest of my life isn't quite what I want to do yet.

More about me: I'm a writer (if you haven't figured that out yet), I write to make money, I write for pleasure, I write for purpose. I typically write poetry and fiction, but I have been known to write philosophical pieces as well as nonsensical ones.

I have a respect for traditional writing, but I think that we shouldn't try to emulate the traditions, we should make our own. We shouldn't hang onto the old styles just because they are safe. We should branch out from the things we love and make them into our own originality and truths.

I'm very big on truth. I don't like to cloud issues with drama or bullshit. I would like to believe that I am equal parts mind and heart when it comes to making decisions and I'm getting better at following my instincts when it comes to what I should do with my life. Hence, why I'm moving.

In the entries to come I'll tell you about things that happen in my life, things I want to happen, things I'm making happen. This is not only for my friends to read and get to know me better, this is also for strangers to come across and find out that they are not alone in this universe.

I hope you've enjoyed this exercise in "vaguery" and will return next week when I dive into the heart of some things.
